The Historic Cotton Mill Studios (122 Riverside Drive) will host a vintage circus-themed re-opening party on Saturday, November 11th at 5 pm, after the River Arts District Fall Studio Stroll.

It’s a party celebrating new beginnings and the legacy of the River Arts District.

In June of this year, the Historic Cotton Mill Studios was purchased by Jannette Montenegro and Richard Patino, part-time Asheville residents for the last 15 years.

“We’re thrilled to open our doors and bring people in to see what’s happening at the Historic Cotton Mill Studios,” says Richard.

The studios will be open Saturday (11/11) and Sunday (11/12) at 10 am for the studio stroll, with the opening party taking place after the stroll, on 11/11 at 5 pm.

Artists in the Historic Cotton Mill Studios include mixed-media artist Andy Herod, and new to the studio are metalworker Reid Dawson, painter and costumer Ka Amorastreya, photographer Jody Dixon, Kizmet Yogawear apparel, and Real Old: Vintage Goods. The Asheville Guitar Bar also makes its home in the former cotton mill.

Celebrating the River Arts

“This is a community party,” emphasizes Jannette. “We invite everyone to help us warm up our space, meet the new artists and makers at the studios, and celebrate the creativity of the River Arts District,” says Jannette.

Freaky sideshow performances by Imagine Circus will include snake charming, a bed of nails, an electrocution box, and other marvels. Performers include DJ Dr. Filth, Pleasure Chest, Eric Congdon, and dancers from Trillium Dance Company.

Wristbands are $1, with proceeds along with beverage sales benefiting Asheville Greenworks. District artists are donating art work for a silent auction to benefit the River Arts District Artists Association. Bun Intended food truck will be on site serving up Thai-inspired buns and bao, and complimentary popcorn and cotton candy will be offered throughout the venue.

Event sponsors and participants include Asheville Greenworks,  Asheville Guitar Bar, Wedge Brewing Co., Smoky Park Supper Club, Celine & Company Catering, Oh, Henry Events, Libby Gamble Photography, and Gingers Revenge. For more information on the Historic Cotton Mill Studios’ opening party, visit Cotton Mill Studios on Facebook.
